The Minisport/Paddy Hopkirk and MiniWorld supported rally team of Peter Barker and co-driver are once again out on the Alpine Rally, this time in a new car.

Having won the event last year in his 1965 Austin Mini Cooper S and in 2003 in an ex-works 1071cc Morris Mini Cooper 977ARX, with Willy Cave on the maps, Peter is hoping to complete a hat trick of wins within 10 years.  This year Peter is in a 1961 Austin Mini Seven, powered by a rally tuned 850cc engine prepared by SMMC of Southam, Warwickshire. The Austin Seven is exclusively using Paddy Hopkirk branded tuning parts as supplied by Mini Sport.

The Paddy Hopkirk products; brake callipers and discs, gearknob and badging are all being fitted to the Mini. The last time out for the Mini Seven was the 2004 Rally of the Tests on which Peter finished 19th overall and 1st in the 1000cc class with navigator Graham Rood. So it has been a while since the Mini has been in competition but with some TLC, new Mini Sport parts and a good rally team behind it their is no reason why Peter cant reach his aim of a hat-trick of results.

The 2011 Alpine Rally starts in Lausanne, Switzerland on Monday 4th July and finishes in Cortina d’Ampezzo situated in the Dolomites of Italy on Friday 8th July. In this time they will cover over two thousand miles of mountain roads which should be a good test of the Mini Seven, its crew and our Paddy Hopkirk branded parts.

We will keep you updated on their progress but if you want to find out more now, then you can have a look at the rallies official website:
