This weekend the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique got under way. With the Monte Carlo WRC event coming to an end last weekend and with Sordo finishing well in the MINI, it is now time for the world famous Automobile Club de Monaco to celebrate its long and illustrious history with this historic event aimed at those keen Classic Car owners.
The historic rally event, hosted by the Automobile Club de Monaco, differs greatly from the now modern Monte Carlo Rally with competitors getting to choose from several start locations including Torino, Barcelona, Glasgow, Oslo, Warsaw and Reims. The different Concentration Legs will meet in Monaco before the next two legs that will then take them to Valence, before the drive back to Monaco for the second part of the Monaco stages and the final night of competition. The rally, being hosted just after the WRC event shows just how much has changed in the world of rallying with it being a test of endurance as well as pure pace and grit.
This year, Mini Sport regular Peter Barker will be attempting the Rally in his Austin Mini as part of a British team of Minis. He has recently updated us with his preparation and will be reporting back to us on his progress. He has made several key changes to his Mini, to help it cope with the icy conditions and steep ascents and descents.
“We travel on Sunday at midday and the rally starts at 7pm local time from Reims on Monday evening. The 850 is prepped and ready”
We wish them all the best of luck!
