Mini Sport Bodyshop: Protecting the Bodyshell
The Austin Mini Cooper from Switzerland was previously stripped and sent to be burned before being returned to Mini Sport. Since then the Mini has been wire brushed and had all paint removed. This is quite a labor intensive job but ensures every spec of paint is removed and the Bodyshell is in good condition to receive a coat of rust converter which will not only protect and preserves the bare metal but also remove light rust.
After the coat of rust converter has dried a base layer of Etch primer is applied for further protection. The Bodyshop technicians then turn their attention to the inside. The inside is wire brushed too before a coat of etch primer, leaving only the underside to be done. You can see the before and after below.
Once the Mini is protected from any further rusting it can be assessed for damage and replacement panels. As you can see, the majority of the floor is rusted and will no doubt need replacing.
