This weekend just passed was the Brands Hatch Mini Festival. This is a great event that has everything Mini including live racing such as the MINI Challenge series, Mini Se7ens and Mini Miglias.
Among the hustle and bustle of the trade stands, stunt shows, air displays and show ‘n’ shine there was some serious competition with qualifying being tightly contested on track. The weather conditions where great with the sun beaming down on the track, allowing great traction and some good lap times. The Mini Sport Miglias of Richard Casey and Dave Drew were both out on the circuit and managed to qualify 8th and 10th on the grid for Race 1 and 6th and 8th position for Race 2, leaving Dave sat behind Richard twice, as they went speeding towards Paddock Hill Bend.
The races proved to be better than qualifying however with Richard Casey finding himself in 3rd position after just a couple laps and Dave Drew in 6th. The pair sat in 4th and 5th for a long period in the race however they trade places a couple times with Richard exchanging manouvers with Rupert Deeth for 3rd and Dave fighting amongst a small group sat just behind. They eventually finished an impressive 3rd and 6th.
Race two started well with Richard and Dave jumping up the order to 3rd and 4th straight away however after only two laps Dave was out of the race, leaving Richard as the only representative for Mini Sport in the second race. Richard battled throughout and after jumping between 2nd and 4th, managed to retain his position of 3rd to gain another podium! Dave will no doubt be slightly dissapointed having not finished as Brands Hatch has been a good circuit for him in the past where he has featured on the podium several times but thats motor racing for you!
