The run up to the Brands Hatch Mini Festival was huge and everyone around Mini Sport was looking forward to attending and enjoying a weekend of Mini Racing and Fun… we wasn’t let down! The event was great and the weather wasn’t too unkind to us either.
There was plenty of action on the track with all makes and models of Mini participating, including the Mini Se7en and Mini Miglia Championship, of which we proudly sponsor.
The Mini Se7ens were first up on a wet and windy Saturday and the AL Motorsport duo Adam and Leon started in 12th and 14th respectively. It was close racing with lots for the huge crowd to get excited about and AL Motorsport Team could be happy with what they saw too with both drivers gaining positions and finishing the race 9th and 12th.
With the Saturday racing schedule going well with MINI Challenge and Mighty Minis both having taken their turns, it was time to release the Mini Miglias on Brands Hatch! The Mini Sport Minis of Richard Casey and Dave Drew started in a healthy 2nd and 5th and after another close 16 laps ended their race day in 4th and 6th, just missing out on a podium!
The Sunday brought better weather and another exciting Race program, including the classic ‘pre 66′ series and ‘Champion of 2013 Mini Festival’ Race as the finale!
The Sunday racing started with the MINI Challenge series before the Mini Miglias warmed up the track. Casey and Drew had good grid positions again, starting in 3rd and 4th respectively however the roles were reversed come the chequered flag with Dave Drews’ White, Red and Blue Mini claiming 3rd sport and a podium whilst Richard Caseys’ Green Miglia came home in a respectable 5th. All together a good consistent weekend of racing for the Mini Sport Sponsored Mini Miglias with lots of positives!
With the track staying dry and warming nicely the Mini Se7ens took to the grid, Engines buzzing and throttle foots twitching. Leon started ahead of Adam this time, in 11th, with Adam back in 14th out of the 29 Mini Se7ens that attended. When the lights went out it was ‘Go Go Go!’ and a mad scramble for position at the first corner began. The scrappy racing and tactical manoeuvres carried on throughout the race with the AL Motorsport drivers making their way through the field again, clearly having good race pace. Adams car #44 leapfrogged Leon to finish 7th although wasn’t far ahead as car #7 finished with one car between them in 9th.
Champion of 2013 Mini Festival Race
The final race of the weekend! With Minis from all disciplines, including Miglias, Se7ens and MINI JCWs along with a famous driver or two it made for and exciting race. With a staggered grid levelling the playing field it should create a spectacularly close finish.
Mini Sport had several race representatives with both AL Motorsports Mini Se7en drivers entering along with Dave Drew in his Miglia. The MINI challenge cars quickly caught up taking 7 seconds a lap out of the classic Minis with overtaking a plenty. However in the mean time the competition was ongoing at the front. Celebrity chef James Martin took the lead from Leon before holding off Damon Astin for the win. AL Motorsport driver Adam managed to round off a good weekend with a podium finish, grabbing a well deserved 3rd place. Andrew Deviny followed in fourth with the first of the Mini Challenge drivers, Lee Allen, finishing in 5th having just pipped Paul Simmonds Mini Miglia by 0.080 seconds!
Dave Drew quickly followed in 8th place having followed his fellow Mini Miglia drivers Kane Astin over the line.
This was a great race to finish the event and after a few celebrations it was time to close the curtain on this years Brands Hatch Mini Festival… until next year at least!
We are looking forward to the event next year already and would like to thank everyone who attended the event from Drivers, Spectators and Celebrities to the organisers.
We hope to see you again next year for an even bigger and better Brands Hatch Mini Festival!
