In February we received a message from Thomas Billam, a 17-year old student with a Mini and a big idea! He contacted us regarding sponsorship and we at Mini Sport were impressed and excited to get involved with his big plans.

Thomas, like us shares the same interest in Mini’s and his classic 1977 Leyland Mini, Babs was to embark on a big road trip for a great cause.

Following his studies, Thomas decided to take a gap-year and pursue a trip to Senegal to immerse himself in the African culture and help the native communities of the people who live there for an entire year before he continues in his education. He has learnt French, the language off Senegal in preparation of his trip; but still requires funding in order to help him on his way.

In addition to the project trust, Thomas wanted to help out another charitable cause which was close to his heart – Marie Curie, which offers help and support for more that 40,000 families each year, dealing with terminal illness. You can read more about Thomas’s fundraising idea on our blog post here.

This week, Thomas, Angus and of course Babs, completed their journey! They managed to make it from Scotland down to Hampstead in London, visit nine UK Marie Curie hospices on their way!

Thomas and Angus kept in touch with great photos and videos and documented their entire trip over on their blog here. At each hospice the pair handed out a range of gifts and welcomed doodles on Babs everywhere they went.

This fantastic trip down the country helped raise awareness of two fantastic causes, Project Trust and Marie Curie, as well as spreading cheer and intrigue with each stop they made.

Thomas finished the trip with stating that: ‘So we made it! 1,200miles in 3 days. Thank you too all the Marie Curie staff that supported us on the way and to all the kind people we met who spurred us on!! However the biggest thanks must go out to Angus Brown, without your mini expertise, superb driving skills, accurate navigational prowess, amazing singing voice and “fantastic” jokes it would never have been possible!! Best road trip!’

We wish Thomas the best of luck for his year in Senegal and Angus, keep up the good work! Visit our Facebook for more fantastic photos from this fantastic trip!
