Minis starting to arrive at Mini Sports Giant Marquee at Mini Action Day
Last weekend once again saw the UK’s oldest, best and ONLY track based Mini Show, Mini Action Day in association with Mini Sport at Castle Combe Circuit in Chippenham, Wiltshire.
This years event was a special one… Not only were we at Mini Sport celebrating our 50th Anniversary, but Mini Action Day it’s self had reached a special milestone, they have been putting on this magnificent event for 25 years!
Inside the Mini Sport Marquee
As always, there was plenty of amazing Mini’s of all varieties, track action, special guests and competitions. Our giant Mini Sport marquee was packed with just about everything you could possibly want for your pride and joy. We were once again running our FREE prize draw which again proved very popular, giving visitors the chance to win ‘Mini prizes’! Visitors were also able to pick up FREE 50th anniversary stickers and take home our 2017 Mini Parts Catalogue! We were also sporting a fantastic collection of 24 Mini’s from the Mini Sport Mini Cup, Mini Cooper Register, and friends of Mini Sport. Mini Sport iconic Rally Car, known affectionately as NCK was comfortably housed inside our giant marquee, along side Team Mini Sport’s MINI JCW-01c World Rally Car, the first time ever a World Rally Car had attended a UK Mini show. 2pm saw our beasty WRC out on the track , thrilling the crowds with a short display!
Not only did we have these stunning cars on our stand, but also, we were kindly joined by our good friend and rally legend, 1964 Monte Carlo Rally winner Paddy Hopkirk… Paddy did a short signing session, some meet and greets and joined the Mini Sport team in celebrating our 50th Anniversary.
12pm saw the first of the parade laps, the ‘25th Anniversary Parade’ where the proud owners got a chance to go around the circuit with friends and family on board, showing off their pride and joy to the on looking spectators. This was followed later by the ‘Mini Sport Parade’ where the cars from our stand drove around the circuit for 3 laps, giving people a chance to see our cars on the move, and listen to some of those amazing engines!.
The Mini Sport ‘Top 50’ Mini’s of the show then got an opportunity to show off to the crowds and do a parade lap, after being carefully chosen by Mini Sport staff, an incredibly tough decision given the huge eclectic choice on display at the show…
As the cars finished their lap, the top 3 were chosen, a very difficult decision, but the results were as follows: In 3rd place was a recently restored 1983 Mini Mayfair owned by Jayne Coombes. 2nd place was a bright orange 1994 Mini Mayfair with matching trailer owned by Ashley Hobbs, who had proudly taken to the track with his young son, and the winner was a 1965 Mk1 Mini Cooper S.
Many thanks to everyone who visited our stand and made it such a great day!
